GetSet! Training for Special Education Success

If you have a school-age child with an intellectual or developmental disability, you want your child to have the best education possible.  However, many parents are unsure of their child’s educational rights or how to make the most of the opportunities that are available.
GetSet! Training for Special Education Success guides you through the range of issues you may encounter while your child is in the public school system from birth through age 21.  You will gain the knowledge and skills to become an effective advocate for your child.
A WORKING KNOWLEDGE
GetSet! is designed to give you a basic working knowledge of the laws that govern special education services.  It is based on the 2004 Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA).  The curriculum reflects the most recent revisions in the law, so you can be confident of having up-to-date information.
No matter what your level of experience with the special education system, you’ll find GetSet! comprehensive and useful.
CORE PROGRAM
The core GetSet! program has four main sessions:
•  Session 1: Child Find and the Evaluation Process
•  Session 2: The Development of the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
•  Session 3: Implementation of the IEP & Special Topics
•  Session 4:  Review, Revision, Re-evaluation & Service Termination
Sessions are often held as a series of weekly meetings but may be modified in content and duration to meet the needs of a specific group.  Trainings may be held at schools, businesses, community centers, churches or other convenient locations.
GetSet! is conducted by trained facilitators, many of whom are parents with experience in the special education system.
The GetSet! program is clear and user-friendly.  Participants receive all materials on a CD-ROM, making it easy to refer back for information when the training is over.
CUSTOM-TAILORED OPTIONS
Arc can customize GetSet! to meet the needs and interests of different participant groups.
Some participants prefer to focus on certain sections of GetSet!  For example:
• Does your group have questions about the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)?  How are goals developed?  What should be listed on the adaptations page?  How will I know if my child is making progress?  These and other questions can be answered with the help of the GetSet! program’s IEP Development section (Session 2).
• Does your group consist of parents who have children of transition age (age 14-21)?  The GetSet program can be used to create an individualized session focusing on the transition process.
• Did you ever wonder how a child qualifies for Extended School Year (ESY) services?  You can use the GetSet! curriculum to design a short training session based solely on the ESY process.
